2009 FYSA Teams
A note to parents and players from the FYSA Board:
In all, more than 330 boys and girls have registered for the 2009 soccer season. Clearly, soccer is very much alive and well, in Falmouth.
For the U-9, U-10 and U-11 age groups, teams are created via a blind draw and players are assigned randomly to teams. There are no tryouts at these age groups - teams are balanced with a wide range of talent, athleticism and experience on each team.
As many of you may be aware, beginning at the U12 age group, Soccer Maine coordinates and oversees league play in which teams compete against each other in an organized and more competitive fashion than seen at the U10 and U11 age level. In an effort to keep this play as fair and equitable as possible, Soccer Maine has created two divisions, with Division 1 (D1) being the more competitive of the two. Within this two-tiered system, FYSA has found that grouping children by ability level results in their maximum development as soccer players AND a positive experience both athletically and socially.
At times, adherence to these guidelines does not always make for popular decisions in assigning players to D1 and D2 teams. The FYSA Board, with considerable input from coaches and independent evaluators (many of who have decades of experience) has established the rosters for the 2009 season. We feel the rosters are fair, balanced and support the goals and mission of the organization. The team sizes are also within guidelines established by Soccer Maine.
It's important to state that FYSA is equally committed to developing soccer players in both divisions, and we are in discussions with professional development coaches to work with players and coaches this year, with an emphasis on developing the skills of the D2 teams. We will have more information on these exciting program enhancements in the coming weeks.
PLEASE NOTE:
- If you are on a team where your coach is listed you must call that coach on or before July 1st to confirm your position on the roster and your intent to play.
- If you are on a team where the Coach has yet to be determined (will state TBD next to coach), you will be contacted directly by your coach (on or before July 1st) once the Coaching Position is filled, to confirm your position on the roster and your intent to play.
In thinking about the upcoming season, please take these words from soccer legend, Pele, to heart - this is what it's all about:
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
Enjoy your summer. We look forward to seeing you out on the soccer fields this fall.

NOTE U12-U14 players: You will see that U12-U14 rosters will be listed by numbers, not player names. These numbers were handed out at the evaluations and are not jersey numbers or rankings. If you are unsure of your number, please email Martha Bohrmann.
